At Sumba Pasola, our team is our greatest competitive advantage. We are not a faceless booking platform or a mainland operator running tours to Sumba as a side business. We are a dedicated team of Sumba islanders, cultural specialists, and luxury travel professionals — united by a single purpose: to share Sumba’s extraordinary heritage with the world, on Sumba’s terms.
As a member of Juara Holding, our team operates to the highest professional standards in Indonesian tourism. Every guide is trained, certified, and deeply familiar with the cultural protocols required to experience the Pasola Festival with respect and authenticity.
How Our Team Is Organised
We publish desks, not personal profiles. Each desk owns a defined part of your trip and is accountable for the part of this site that describes it. The coordinator and guide assigned to your journey are introduced to you by name once planning begins.
Operations Desk
Runs scheduling, vehicles and the day-to-day mechanics of a Sumba itinerary, and holds the relationships with village leaders and regional offices that Pasola access depends on. Access to a ceremony is never guaranteed by us — it is granted by the community that holds it, and this desk is the one that asks.
Cultural Interpretation Desk
Explains the spiritual and social weight of what you are watching — Marapu practice, clan lineage in textile patterns, why a tomb faces the direction it does, why the Rato priest chose this beach for the Nyale. Interpretation is done in the guest’s language, by guides who grew up inside the tradition.
Guest Coordination Desk
Your point of contact from first enquiry to departure: quotations, accommodation, flight recommendations into Tambolaka or Waingapu, and real-time messaging during the trip. This is the layer that lets the guide on the ground concentrate on guiding.

Every field guide at Sumba Pasola is a native Sumba islander — born into the culture they guide. That is not a trivial point. The Pasola is a sacred ceremony, and access rests on relationships built over generations. Our guides do not merely know the festival; they belong to the communities that hold it. Guides are assigned by region — Wanokaka, Lamboya, Gaura and Kodi in the west, Waingapu and the eastern weaving villages — so the person with you is from the ground you are standing on.
